Questions
How often should I change my furnace filter?
For a 1-inch filter, every 90 days is a good start. Change it sooner with pets, allergies, construction dust or wildfire smoke. Deep 4-inch and 5-inch media filters usually last 6 to 12 months.
What size filter do I need?
The size is printed on the edge of the filter you have now, for example 16x25x1. That is the nominal size, the one you shop by. If the edge is blank, measure the slot and use the size finder.
What does MERV mean?
MERV is a rating from 1 to 16 for how much fine dust a filter catches. MERV 8 suits most homes. MERV 11 to 13 catches more pollen, pet dander and smoke, but in a thin 1-inch filter it can restrict airflow on some older furnaces.
Do I need an app?
No. Reminders come by text, email or both, and the link in each one opens a page with your filter on it. There is no password: the link is how you get in.
What happens if I text STOP?
Filterly texts stop and you get one message confirming it. If your HVAC company also texts you through Plenum, the same STOP covers their messages to that number. You can set reminders up again at filterly.io/start.
Is it free?
Yes, reminders are free. If you buy filters through a store link on the page, the store may pay Filterly a small commission. You pay the store’s normal price.
